2004 Season - Week 8
Hall of Fame, Hall of Fame
For just the 4th time in our 10 year (151 week history) yesterday we had 2 Hall of Fame performances in the same week. Congratulations to Phil who makes his third appearance with a 53 point week which moved him to the top of the Conference. Meantime Wayne also set a personal best this week with a 62 point score (the 5th best ever) and he moved to the top of the Premiership. It’s been a good week for us all, combined we’ve totalled 459 points with both the night games to go, so we should have a top 10 total score by the end of the week. More on this next week.
Rushing Records and Numbers
The last 2 weeks have seen a number of significant stats worthy of note. Emmitt Smith has rushed for 100 yards in 78 separate games passing the old record of 77 held by Walter Payton. Curtis Martin has passed Jim Brown for 7th most career rushing yards (12,352) and he is 130 behind The Bus in 6th place. 5th all-time is Tony Dorsett with 12,739. CuMar is also on pace for his 10th consecutive 1,000 yard season (only Emmitt and Barry Sanders have done that before). Marshall Faulk has now rushed for 100 TD’s passing Barry Sanders for 6th all-time. In week 7 Priest Holmes and Derrick Blaylock both rushed for 4 TD’s - that’s impressive in itself, but the stunning thing is they both play for the Chiefs who set an NFL record with 8 rushing TD’s.
Trading Day 2.
We now know who will be playing after Trading Day 2 which as you know is at 3pm Sunday November 21st. Once you’ve made your final trades of the season (before the week 11 games) we will settle down to watch four winning teams as they battle for the playoffs, Detroit Lions (4-3) @ Minnesota Vikings (5-2) followed by Atlanta Falcons (6-2) @ the New York Giants (5-2).
Sunday and Monday Night Football.
With the World Series over we will return to a three night’s a week viewing pattern. Sunday afternoon football will be watched on Sunday evening, the Sunday night game on Monday evening and the Monday night game on Tuesday evening. As a result the scores will not get thoroughly checked until Wednesday, so please make sure your team has got the right scores. That said we’ve not got a gathering tonight but we are at H’s from 6:30pm on Tuesday to watch that great old AFC East rivalry as the Jets entertain the Dolphins. H is doing food so let him know if you are coming.
